Building an AI-first company, are we ready- Hays careers advice Viewpoint careers advice blog
Building an AI-first company, are we ready- Hays careers advice Artificial Intelligence (AI) in its short form is currently one of the most common phrases entered into search engines. This Google Trends graph suggests Artificial Intelligence popularity to be reaching the same level as it was in 2004, following the release of science fiction movie I, Robot starring Will Smith. I am in no way attempting to compare the popularity of Will Smith to the current interest in AI, but time has proven that what was once science fiction, is now becoming real. AI has started to become more tangible and can be put to good business use by AI-first organisations. There are a lot of interesting views on whether AI is a threat or an opportunity, or whether AI needs to be regulated, a topic which we have already explored in depth. I now believe itâs time for businesses to take this opportunity and embrace AI for business transformation and growth. I feel excited because AI has started to travel from the world of academia comprising of computer scientists, physicists and mathematicians, to the wider world of business and consumers. AI has the capability to shift the productivity and revenue dial for a lot of companies by significant margins. I am lucky to be a part of influencing some of the first strategies; mobile-first, API-first and cloud-first, and also see the benefit of implementing these strategies. Based on my experience, here are the four key areas to focus on if you want to become an AI-first company, and gain a competitive advantage: 1. Build an AI-first culture This is the most challenging and important part of transformation, the part which will get people ready for the new and exciting world of AI. The end product will end up on the lap of end users, be it consumer or employees. If businesses really want to thrive in this exciting age of AI and data powered systems, they will need to invest in its people to train and use the products built with AI technology. A good training plan, group learning boards and exercises will help employees to trust the output of the systems and use it as a companion to make the decisions on their behalf, and this trust is key to building an AI-first company. Someone of great wisdom said to me once that âif you think you are not a software company you may not be a company in futureâ, so like all good software companies, every employee should be encouraged to embrace AI. 2. Existing products and tools â" looking through an AI lens One of the keys to becoming a true AI-first company is looking at all products and services you offer (B2B and B2C) through an AI lens. All existing products, software, tools, services used by employees, offered as B2B and B2C engagements can be assessed, made smarter or replaced by AI. Take recruitment for instance, are you still stuck with developing a tool which can only search based on keywords and fields entered by a recruiter? AI enabled search can transform this system by getting trained to generate the searches for our recruiters rather than recruiters having to search and find top candidates for a given job. Are recruiters still having to arrange an interview manually, or do you have an AI assistant who can do that for them? Are you having to respond to emails yourself while there are so many AI services which can help generate âsmart repliesâ which are passed onto you to edit and send? There are many such use cases and applications in various industry domains and products which, if applied, can bring some serious productivity improvements. So, understand the existing products, look at them through an AI lens, plugin AI services and transform the culture and usage. Obviously, once you have evaluated this you need an AI architecture to integrate and enhance existing products and services, but thatâs a separate blog altogether. 3. Develop an automation culture and approach In software, we always used to automate something if we knew that the process was predictable, could be documented and was less laborious than doing the process manually. This approach meant most of the time, the percentage of automation possible was claimed to be 50-60 percent , but practically it translated to 10-20 percent. The advent and availability of AI-based automation facility transforms and changes the whole of this past approach to automation. Automation no longer needs to be based on a scripted well-defined process, but a machine which is trained to perform a task as a normal human being would do. The automation can now handle most of the exception scenarios on a massive scale. Although it sounds like a simple thing, it has a very deep impact on automation and again points at numerous use cases which I am sure we are already seeing or will see soon as products in the marketplace. For example, one of the common use cases for IT services was automated software testing. AI will harvest a product which can act as a robotic tester for all of your software products and releases instead of software testing automation. Similarly one of the areas where AI can help and transform now is manual data entry into the system. An example within the recruitment world could be creating a well-tagged/classified job and candidate profile in the system by a user. In other industries automation use cases could be creating a customer record in the CRM system and tagging them with the right business section/department, recording a call log in the system, etc. These are very promising automation use cases and close to reality where systems for end users will not be to perform grunt work but rather produce meaningful output for them. So assess what problems your business users and employees solve on a daily basis, and take the grunt work away from them with automation powered by AI. 4. Develop unique data propositions This is the key to AI strategy and the only one which will give any business a competitive advantage in the long run over others. AI-based products and services are a combination of Algorithm + Computing Power + Data. AI and machine learning algorithms will be open to all, computing power is available in abundance and cheap on the cloud, however, the data points generated in the company are the unique and key differentiator. A good data strategy and partnership which can create a unique data set to deliver a use case powered by AI algorithms, sitting on top of the combined meaningful data store, will have a competitive advantage. The businesses who nurture and care for their unique data points and formulate an intelligent data strategy will have the upper hand. AI is a very vast and broadly used topic these days. I hope the above article gives you a basic approach to start acting and using AI to best of your business advantage and take your first step to being a true AI-first company. 6 Ways Career Coaches are Adding Value with Jobscan
6 Ways Career Coaches are Adding Value with Jobscan 6 Ways Career Coaches are Adding Value with Jobscan Vocation mentors and business experts have been utilizing Jobscans resume and LinkedIn advancement instruments for quite a long time to enhance their instructing and give more an incentive to their customers. We connected with five mentors and masters across North America to find out about the various ways theyre utilizing Jobscan, regardless of whether it be a personal free or Premium account or enterprise-level Jobscan Premium or Coach accounts: Lise Stransky, private and agreement profession mentor and facilitator situated in Calgary, Alberta Bounce McIntosh, LinkedIn and resume expert at the Career Center of Lowell Ruth Kunstadter, Career and Transitions Coach at New Pathways Coaching, LLC Hannah Morgan, Assistant Director of Simon Business Schools Career Management Center at the University of Rochester Jen St. Pierre, Warriors to Work Specialist at Wounded Warrior Project I am not a resume author, said Lise Stransky, who utilizes the Jobscan continue enhancement apparatus directly off the bat to guarantee her customers are carrying a quality resume to the table before she gets the chance to work. She reveals to her customers, I would truly suggest you modify your resume before you send it to me and pay me for a survey, and heres an apparatus to perceive how well youve as of now modified it. Sway McIntosh, then again, likes to use Jobscan to put the completing addresses a customers resume. When we have their resume to what they think they like, I will pull up Jobscan and glue their resume just as their set of working responsibilities. That is the point at which they can truly perceive how effective they are as far as watchword coordinate and the rate. Here are a couple of ways counselors are offering some incentive to their customers and understudies with Jobscan: 1) Jobscan is a reminder for work searchers Its educational for individuals, said Ruth Kunstadter. Individuals think they have a decent resume for what theyre attempting to apply for, however a great deal of them dont. With regards to helping a vocation searcher improve their resume, in some cases the initial step is demonstrating to them that there is opportunity to get better. At the point when an occupation searcher sees a Jobscan Match Report with a low evaluating just because, it can make them pay heed. The Match rate at the highest point of the Match Report demonstrates how much work there is to be finished. Jobscan prescribes raising your score to 80% before applying, if conceivable. Normally their [Match Report] grades arent that extraordinary and theyre truly stunned, said Lise. Stunned that their resume is thus, what they would state, poor. I state, No, its not poor. Its not focused on.' Whatever it takes to move that outlook, said Hannah Morgan, since this has been continuing for a considerable length of time where [the understudy work seekers] would send that equivalent unmodified resume to each activity without tweaking it like it was 1980. 2) Jobscan approves what mentors are instructing Its an eye opener since its an instrument that gives them what we attempt to let them know, which is choose the watchwords in work posting, said Jen St. Pierre. That is the businesses language. Profession pros have known for quite a while that cautiously fitting your resume to a particular set of working responsibilities prompts more chances. Getting purchase in from customers who dont need to place work into each resume is the critical step. [Jobscan] truly turns into a backer for us as occupation mentors to show its authenticity, that were not simply causing this to up, proceeded Jen. A significant number of us have foundations in enrollment. We used to compose work postings so we know. Its one thing to tell someone, its another to send them a connect to a point by point report that shows it clearly. Its a decent approval as far as what Im attempting to state about fitting resumes, said Bob. The numbers are in that spot, said Ruth. Dislike an individual disclosing to you that. The machine is going to take a gander at your resume and this is the thing that the machine is going to see. Its goal. 3) Jobscan inspires and considers customers responsible Since the resume is scored with hard numbers and target realities, work looking for customers can construct obvious objectives around continue improvement. Lets get that number up,' Jen reveals to her customers. It gives them to a greater extent a test and an explanation. She proceeded, I can do a few rescans and theyll feel the pride of watching that number go up. As a Warriors to Work expert, Jen can investigate continues for a veterans sake through her boundless Jobscan Premium record. They dont need to pay, she said. Its previously remembered for my agreement. I love that I have boundless on the grounds that it gets me to show them and have them returned for additional. At the University of Rochesters Simon Business School, Hannah has introduced venture level Jobscan Coach represents the staff guides through Jobscan's University program. Through Coach, Hannah and different counsels can give Jobscan Premium records to understudies, communicate with them straightforwardly through Jobscan, and screen their advancement. This advances responsibility in the understudies and guarantees that everybody is utilizing the assets accessible to them. I wouldnt know what number of the understudies were utilizing [Jobscan] in the event that I didnt have the Coach stage, said Hannah. With Coach, Hannah can offer better heading to the counselors she works with. For instance, Hannah said she may tell a counselor of a dormant understudy, If theyre requesting to meet with you, I would anticipate that you should discover what number of employments theyre applying to and afterward discover why theyre not utilizing Jobscan on the grounds that its a device that were giving them for nothing and it will have any kind of effect.' I can likewise perceive how high they have had the option to get their scores in a simple visual diagram, proceeded Hannah. It shows the various scores that theyve had when theyve transferred their resume. 4) Jobscan helps work searchers comprehend candidate following frameworks (ATS) Something I see constantly with individuals that Im working with in pursuit of employment, they can't comprehend candidate following frameworks, said Hannah. Most organizations, including 98% of Fortune 500, utilize an ATS to oversee, search, and channel candidates. I think understudies truly still accept that selection representatives are taking a gander at each resume that gets through the candidate following framework, Hannah proceeded. Rather than perusing each resume, selection representatives can scan for resumes dependent on catchphrases, or permit their framework to naturally rank candidates by contrasting the resume with the set of working responsibilities. Along these lines, mentors realize that activity searchers increment their odds by moving catchphrases from the set of working responsibilities legitimately to their resume. A great many people are stunned that innovation has done this to quest for new employment and they dont very understand that a resume must be redone and focused on each and every time, said Lise. I believe that Jobscan makes it excessively basic for anyone to comprehend what theyre expected to do, closed Hannah. The Hard Skills area of the Jobscan Match Report shows precisely which abilities are absent from your resume. 5) Jobscan spares time for work searchers and mentors the same One reason I was eager to utilize Jobscan now in the year [is that] understudies are in a frantic race to attempt to secure positions, said Hannah. Therefore, they dont think they have the opportunity to alter their resume. Theyre apprehensive and dont need to pass up the chance, so they simply continue conveying the regular old resume. We realize that that is not successful, particularly since these understudies are just utilizing the candidate following framework process. Jobscan [gives] them the devices to apply to more employments all the more rapidly and be a superior match. Most of the consultants and understudy laborers who were utilizing it stated, Yeah, this is unquestionably going to spare time for the understudies and for me,' proceeded Hannah. In the event that theyve been utilizing Jobscan before they meet with me, I can take a gander at a resume that is a greatly improved form of what it ought to be and it makes it simpler for me to examine and enable the understudy to change. What we used to do before we had Jobscan is type that all out in an email, in such a case that I did it via telephone it just goes in one ear and out the other, said Jen. I would type it hard and fast: dont utilize a similar activity word, quantifiable outcomes it would take me everlastingly in light of the fact that each resume was unique. Jobscan has truly made me progressively proficient and viable in what I do. Im not setting aside the effort to type this all out in an email. I actually reorder and send them a connection. 6) Jobscan goes past ATS I truly like it not only for the ATS stuff, said Ruth. It makes individuals reframe their perspective on how theyre introducing themselves and how natural eyes would see it. Centering the resume for human perusers The way toward improving for ATS can likewise make a resume read all the more obviously for a human enrollment specialist. I generally tell individuals, you have to give [recruiters] the 3-year-old come to an obvious conclusion variant, said Ruth. On the off chance that its natural eyes taking a gander at your resume, theyre going to have somewhere in the range of 3-and 6-seconds to choose if you address their issues. Some portion of what Im doing is preparing them on the most proficient method to move toward businesses and the pursuit of employment process from an incentive perspective, said Ruth, connecting themselves to the businesses needs instead of bringing a three-page continue posting each and every activity. Its not about what they did, its about what they can accomplish for the organization. I feel that utilizing Jobscan is a great path for them to perceive how theyre seen by an individual taking a gander at the resume. LinkedIn enhancement Jobscan isnt pretty much continues. Mentors and work masters can likewise utilize Jobscan to direct their customers to an increasingly compelling LinkedIn profile. The vast majority of our understudies are not so much grasping LinkedIn, said Hannah. Im attempting to be that promoter and state, You need this instrument for the remainder of your profession. So its going to pay to begin putting resources into figuring out how to support connections and how to introduce yourself now. I feel that [LinkedIn Optimization] is a remarkable resource of Jobscan, and Im so happy that you have presented that apparatus. Jobscan lo

Bringing HR out of the Back Office A Shift to People Operations - Your Career Intel
Bringing HR out of the Back Office A Shift to People Operations - Your Career Intel Everything began in Silicon Valley, the same number of the board patterns do, when in 2006 Google refashioned their Human Resources Department into People Operations. As the title has gotten increasingly normal, it is anything but difficult to think this change was simply a marking exercise, going with the expansion of employment postings calling for ninjas, rockstars and masters. In any case, making a People Operations bunch requires more than supplanting the sign on the entryway. It requires reconsidering the job that representatives play in the association and the resulting foundation expected to help them. HR Is Reactive and Static In the Human Resources model, representatives are treated as static assets and the office as a cost place. As it were, HR resembles dealing with the gracefully storage room of individuals: they are recruited and terminated; their unfilled spots are topped off; they are important and unexciting; and they are not contemplated except if something turns out badly. In this situation, HR is receptive, completing the headings of chiefs. This methodology welcomes the move to computerization and redistributing. Onboarding should be possible on the web and representatives can be followed through projects and frameworks. Individuals Operations is Proactive and Engaging Individuals Operations welcomes a move the other way. Rather than making HR less close to home, People Operations requires greater association at each degree of an association. There is a truism that in proficient assistance organizations, your most prominent resource exits the entryway every night. At a specialist organization like Lucas Group, our representatives are our item. Work on your bad habits not coworkers nerves
Work on your negative behavior patterns not collaborators' nerves Work on your negative behavior patterns not collaborators' nerves Self-Assessment Quiz â" TRUE or FALSE: My own propensities at work aren't recognizable to other people. Who cares if individuals don't care for me. In the event that they're irritated, that is their concern. I'm there to work. Taking care of business is the most significant thing to me at work. I've been in the workforce quite a while and have worked in a wide range of situations. You recognize what that implies. I've seen a wide range of work people and work characters. My activity today is to forestall you youthful 'uns from building up the sort of negative behavior patterns that drive individuals nuts and make you a work character. And for you Old G's, stuck in a rut, I'm attempting to tell you that you should take a gander at making a change. Quick. Here are my main three work characters that got their beginning from awful habits:Rushing RitaHow to perceive her:She's consistently in a rush. Unreasonably occupied for gatherings, too occupied to even think about listening to guidelines, too occupied to even think about chatting, too occupied to even consider joining in office snacks or social party time get-togethers. Too occupied to even consider walking at an ordinary individual's pace. Why this is a terrible habit:Rita might be surging on the grounds that she is really exhausted. Fine, we get it, Rita. You're occupied, so is every other person. In any case, what Rita's doing is not tuning in gatherings. She's surging individuals to come to their meaningful conclusion, and she's overlooking what's really important on the grounds that she's a lot in a rush to return to her work area. However, when she returns to her work area, she can't peruse her wrote notes or doesn't recall what was talked about, and now needs to return to somebody for explanation (which is a trouble). Or then again she attempts to make sense of it all alone, which can be risky in itself. Rita is distancing her associates by not connecting with them socially. She may wind up left out of things inevitably, including open doors for advancement or being put on uncommon vocation progressing projects.Help for Rushing Rita:Slow down. You're worrying individuals with your twister conduct. Tune in. Stay composed. Be at the time. In the event that you are exhausted, ease the heat off of y ourself to complete everything now. You're not a machine. Make sense of how you can achieve what you have to without killing yourself by making a reasonable schedule for the afternoon. Also, breathe.Talky TristaWhat she does:Talky Trista is continually hanging out in someone's work area or inclining toward someone's office entryway. Tristan's mouth works more enthusiastically than she does. She has a story for everything and needs everybody to know everything about the story. Consistently. All day.Why this is a terrible habit:Trista isn't working if Trista is caught up with conversing with everybody. Trista isn't setting a genuine model for the remainder of the workplace. Trista is being troublesome to her collaborators and their productivity.Help for Talky Trista:Go back to your work area. Perhaps your discussion time is a pressure break for when you have to step away from your spreadsheet. The issue is that your break may not correspond with Julie's break, and keeping in mind that you're holding her prisoner in her own desk area with your words hung together in a painfully long story, she's getting focused on in light of the fact that SHE HAS WORK TO DO! Save your accounts for when you really observe somebody on a break, as in the event that they're in the kitchen getting an espresso refill. Or if you must get up and talk on the grounds that else you will wilt and bite the dust, at that point go recount to your story, however for the wellbeing of Pete, be brief. Get in, get out, return to work.Sloppy SusanWhy she stands out:Using an iron is definitely not a high need for Sloppy Susan. Nor is a brush. Or on the other hand now and again a shower with cleanser. Her office appears as though a paper reusing dump and conceivably smells faintly like a little youngster's storage or worse. Why this is a terrible habit:Cleanliness is close to reliability. Messy Susan's manager is reluctant to give her any significant archives or documents for dread she'll never observe them again. On the off chance that the supervisor doesn't confide in a coworker, help for Sloppy Susan:Clean up. On the off chance that your office is your file organizer, this doesn't give higher-ups or your colleagues certainty that you're sorted out, arranged, and prepared to fight â" regardless of whether you are. Also, if appearance isn't essential to you, realize that it is to other people. Try not to jump at the chance to press? Purchase garments that don't need to be pressed; search for polyester and lycra-type mixes. Remain far away from silk and cotton. Set aside some effort to self-reflect. Is there a bigger motivation behind why you're permitting yourself to get so messy? Focusing on your appearance is a type of self-care, and self-care is self-love.If you really observe yourself in any of these three characters, I call that a success since you would now be able to begin to roll out certain improvements. Affirmation is the way to development. In the event that you don't see yourself, well done, continue doing you!Pssst, on the off chance that you addressed True to the entirety of the Self-Assessment questions ⦠we have to talk.Cheryl Grace is the cheeky auntie, closest companion, and guide you've generally required in your life. Visual Resumes Help or Hype
Visual Resumes Help or Hype In the competition to win job interviews, some savvy job seekers are turning to visual resumes: infographic resumes, presumes, social resumes and more. Will it help or hurt their chances? The answer is: it depends. Content is king: The content within your visual resume, should you choose to use one, must address the needs and wants of the employer period. It doesnt matter how slick or creative your visual resume is! What does matter is that the reader can easily find what they are looking for and that your content is relevant to the job and company! When you create your visual resume, be sure to keep the following in mind: Content: Customize your content based on the skills and expertise required by the employer. This information is acquired through the job posting and conversations with company insiders. Visuals: Use visuals on purpose, a fancy chart or graph that doesnt mean anything is a waste of time. Personality: Insert your personal flare you have already chosen to step out on a limb with a different tool. Dont overlook the opportunity to knock it out of the park by letting your personality shine. Think about color, outside interests or even appropriate personal quirks, like being a caffeine junkie). Target the right audience: Infographic resumes are not ATS-friendly, so dont even try to submit it through an applicant tracking system. Instead, use it to catch the attention of a company insider. When you reach out to a contact inside the company, introduce your document as a quick visual overview of what youve done. By the way, there is data that suggests visual images are processed 60,000 times faster than text. Avoid sending it to Human Resources or Recruiters. These folks typically review hundreds of resumes a day and expect to see a traditional text resume. Sending them anything other than a traditional text resume is not in your best interest. Supplying a visual resume to a networking contact is another opportunity to pique the interest of the non-traditional resume reviewer. Imagine the conversation that could emerge when you show your visual resume? Visual resumes tend to be more successful when applying for creative, less traditional roles, such as marketing. You will also see visual resumes used by graphic artists and designers. Almost any company that values or expects creativity, ingenuity or out-of-the box ideas would appreciate the visual interpretation of your story. Share it: It isnt enough to create one of these you need to share it too! Some suggestions include: LinkedIn: Adding it to your LinkedIn profile as embedded media in your summary or experience sections. Status Update: Updating your status on social networks using a link to your visual resume. E-mail Signature: Including a link to it in your email signature and text resume. Pinterest: Pinning it to your Pinterest board highlighting your work and career. Visual.ly: Adding it Visual.ly, a platform designed for sharing infographics and visual content. Infographics are hot: In the marketing industry, infographics are hot! In case you hadnt realized, job seeking is marketing and many of the same principles and trends apply! HubSpot provided these interesting statistics: 65% of the worldâs population are visual marketers. Google Trends shows Infographics grown over 800% in the past 2 years. Using infographics increased traffic 12% more (on average). Why not take a look at the Undercover Recruiter Infographics section? Design skills not required: If you are interested in creating visual resumes, such as infographic resumes, presumes, or social resumes, there are numerous options and new tools appear regularly. If you arent a graphic designer and dont have access design software, never fear. The free tools listed below are simple to use and, in most cases, all you need to do is link your social media profile (usually LinkedIn) and voila, a visual is produced! 5 Best Part-Time Jobs Plus 14 Other Easy Part-Time Jobs - Algrim.co
5 Best Part-Time Jobs Plus 14 Other Easy Part-Time Jobs - Algrim.co Part-time jobs are in abundance, but there are quite a few different types of jobs to choose from. So what are the best part-time jobs!? Maybe you want an easy part-time job to pad your bank account outside of your full-time job. Maybe youâre looking for the best part-time jobs out there to tide you over through the summer before returning to school. Whatever the reason, if youâve never had a part-time job before, you may be a little confused about where to start. Our guide is going to explore all the things to consider when balancing a full and part-time job, as well as some of the best part-time gigs out there to apply for. Things to Consider: The Impact Your Part-Time Job Could Have on Your Full-Time Job By definition, part-time jobs are positions that require approximately 35 hours or less per week of work. A full-time job is, clearly, 35 hours or more per week. If youâre debating whether or not to look into easy part-time jobs to get in order to supplement your full-time job, itâs very important to weigh some pros and cons. One big issue with part-time jobs is that they arenât quite as part-time as weâd think. Even if a position is advertised as a certain amount of hours per week (under 35), there is always a chance once hired that youâll be facing shift coverage, outside activities related to the job, and other factors that could increase the amount of time youâre on the job. Because this is so common, it is vital to make sure that the position you are applying for is flexible. Flexible part-time jobs are the ideal choice for those who already have full-time positions to focus on. Another factor to consider is how labor-intensive your part-time job will be. If youâre working nights at a bar and have to go straight to your full-time job afterward, will exhaustion inhibit your performance? Could you be jeopardizing your main money-maker? Before you dive into applications, think about asking your employer for more hours at your full-time job. This may be a lot easier on you. Types of Part-Time Jobs to Consider There are several different kinds of part-time positions: Entryway jobs. These part-time positions are jobs that promise or provide an opportunity to grow in a particular field. They likely wonât make a lot of money and may require similar daily tasks as an internship. Flexible jobs. Flexible part-time jobs are positions that arenât highly focused on a strict amount of hours or placement of shifts. Flexible jobs are ideal for those who already have a full-time job or wish to make some money outside of classes in college. Retail positions. Retail positions can include jobs such as cashier, sales clerk, stocker, or customer service rep. Fast food jobs. Fast food positions that are part-time usually include fry cooks, waiters, dishwashers, cashiers, etc. Work-study programs. These programs often involve doing work for a university and may or may not involve a studentâs particular major. The funds earned from this part-time job usually go straight to paying a studentâs tuition. Temp job. Temporary staffing agencies will field local businesses who need temporary positions filled for a certain amount of time, usually to cover for an established employeeâs hospital stay, maternity leave, or vacation days.
